Regional workshop “How to strengthen the usage of bioenergy in the Balkans regionwas held in hotel Radisson blu in Belgrade on 24/25th November 2015 with participation of more than 50 representatives from 4 Balkan countries. Representatives were stakeholders from public institutions, academia, NGO’s, public and research institutes, international organizations and private companies.

The opening remarks at the Workshop was given by the State Secretary of the Ministry for Agriculture and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Serbia, Ms. Stana Božović,  followed by Mr. Goran Zubic, Assistant Minister from Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of Republika Srpska and Dr Thomas Michel, Programme Leader of GIZ DKTI program in Serbia. All of them emphasized the importance of regional cooperation for improvement of the framework conditions and better utilization of the bioenergy throughout the region.

The Workshop enabled to regional policy makers and professionals to identify advantages for bioenergy utilization in Balkans, to elaborate on common challenges and to propose necessary activities and/or measures for the improvement of the framework conditions for the usage of bioenergy within the Balkans region.

During the Workshop, the more structured regional cooperation and networking in the field of bioenergy has been especially emphasized as one of the most important tool for mobilization of national decision makers and politicians, consequently for further removal of regulatory barriers for utilization of bioenergy as resource throughout the Balkans.
