Study on a National assessment of actual biomass potentials for energy use and capacity building for monitoring of the bioenergy market in Serbia was submitted to the authorities of the city Zrenjanin. The study is written by the Deutsches Biomasseforschungszentrum (DBFZ) / German Biomass Research Center.

The area of Zrenjanin has a low share of forest compared to southern Serbia. At the same time, the municipality owns several unused areas. To supply the Toplana (heating plant) with an adequate amount of biomass, it is planned to establish short rotation coppice plantation. Five potential areas for the short rotation coppice were identified by the municipality of Zrenjanin.
